Simple day for night shooting

In this short video, I shot a simple shoot of my kitchen during the day (noon) and shot again after lowering the iris as well as putting a blue gel over the lens. No editing was done, this is raw footage. Of course, it can be made better with some post editing or converted to night time without using gel, by using editing software like After Effects, as shown in this tutorial:

Script and research methodology update

I recently finished the script for the final project, which is a short film. It’s about a father telling a story to his son. Because my research topic is about the elements in a film, the story that the father tells his son will be made into different versions, where the elements will change in each version. The story is about a kid who befriends another “kid” (who is actually a grown man) on the Internet, gives away his home address and ends up with his parents murdered by the “kid”, and the kid’s newborn brother is taken away by the “kid”.

In the original script, the story is told using a narrator’s voice (the father), and as he tells the story, the character inside the story is shown and Internet-related bits (such as video games and messaging to depict the conversation between the character and the “kid”) are animations that pop up or blended into the scene. The theme of the original script is horror, therefore ‘creepy’ music will accompany the scene, along with horror-themed animation. So, if the story is broken down into elements:

  • Speech: narrator’s voice, with standard story-telling voice and normal language
  • Music: creepy, horror-themed
  • Sounds: relevant sounds such as creaking doors, rainfall in background, static
  • Visual image: Horror-themed animation mixed with reality
  • Lighting: dark, nighttime

As a result, for the purpose of the research, each of these small elements can possibly be changed in different versions of the story.

Speech:

  • Remove narrator’s voice, depict everything using the character’s action
  • Change tone of voice
  • Change dialogue to poetry (?)

Music:

  • Change genre from horror to happy, comedic – positive in general

Sound:

  • Replace ‘creepy’ sound effects to comedic

Visual:

  • Change everything to animation (comic) and remove reality
  • Change creepy themed to cartoon

Lighting:

  • Nighttime to daytime
